Walkers Cycling Club notched up an outstanding turnout for its routine TT series ride on Tuesday night. A record 30 riders ventured out on the overcast but still night to attempt the 10mile course from the ruined farmhouse at Chapeltoun to the Stanecastle Roundabout and back. Despite this being the fifth in the club’s TT series, it was great to see so many newcomers having go too.
Paula Wilson, riding in her first club series TT managed a creditable 30minutes and came in second overall in the evening’s race on handicap.
The event also saw riders rack up some excellent times with Charles Vincent, Bryce Gillan, Keith Johnston, Grant Walker and David Baird all recording sub-25 minute times. Indeed a mere 25 seconds separated first from fifth, and Bryce’s points pushed him up to second on handicap on the leaderboard for the series.
Bryce then went on to make a decent fist of the inaugural V.C. Glasgow South Team Time Trial the very next evening. Along with team mates Tommy Gribbon and David Kaminski, the trio set off along the A77 course with Bruyce and Tommy setting a blistering pace. David recovered from his earlier nerves (not to mention the last-minute dash around to replace a forgotten helmet) and the group finished together strongly to a slightly disappointing time but a respectable mid field position.
