Despite the apparent late arrival of spring, Walkers CC riders were in action at the weekend again.
10 -12 Walkers Cycling Club members met for weekly Saturday run, writes Catherine Logan. As it was almost a summer’s day the group decided to head to Ayr for the Secret Garden. The route took them out to Gatehead, then up the hills to Old Rome, Earlston & Hayes Garden centre. At this point one member turned back whilst the others headed off to Stair. The descent into Stair had been resurfaced making it a pleasant blast down the hill. Unfortunately at the bottom one member’s chain came off (so much for Di2). Once sorted and everyone regrouped, they continued on past Spring and on up and down to the A70. Then back roads to Sessionfield and Mount Ferguson down to A77, where the group incurred its second incident of the day – a puncture, finally through Alloway for a pleasant lunch stop at Ayr before having a fast blast back through Ayr, Prestwick and Troon, before return up to Dundonald and Drybridge, where the third incident occurred – a broken gear cable, leaving the rider with only 2 gears to limp home using chaingrings to alter the gears.
Great day out, almost summer & quite warm at times. Approx 45 miles round trip.
Next up for WCC is the fourth round of the club’s TT series on Tuesday June 2nd.
