A dozen riders from Walkers CC toured a desolate and derelict corner of Irvine on Saturday’s leisure cycle.
Mountain bikes – and a solitary cyclocross bike – were used to transport club members over the appropriately-named Bogside Flats next to the River Irvine.
They pushed and pedalled their bikes through the flooded landscape that was once the town’s steeplechase horse racing track.
The next stage of the ride was a meander through the eerie remnants of the old Ardeer “dynamite factory”, a sad memorial to an enterprise that once employed 13,000.
Lunch was enjoyed in the altogether more pleasant surroundings of the café at Eglinton Park.
