Saturday morning’s alright for riding

Walkers Cycling Club are in the process of revitalising their Saturday morning “come and go” 30-40 mile rides from KIlmaurs.

These weekly social rides have been a popular feature of the club calendar over many years but for whatever reason – weather being a major culprit – attendance has fallen off in recent months.

The simple format, whereby members decide on the route and the distance on the morning of the cycle, was discussed in detail at the club AGM last month. The “come and go” option was favoured over suggestions that ride plans are agreed in advance and posted early on the club noticeboard.

The members felt that the informality of the “come and go” option would mean that the ride would better achieve its aim of being inclusive and more relaxed.

Routes and mileages are set by consensus on the day, allowing riders to take weather and road conditions plus personal preferences into account.

Riders wishing to do more miles than the group are of course free to add them in at the end of the ride, or indeed go a longer way round to meet with the main bunch at the agreed coffee/lunch stop.

Anyone wishing to sample this kind of easy-paced, social ride can meet the others at the Walkers Cycling shop, Kilmaurs, at 10am on Saturday.

Non-members wishing to develop their cycling, or to learn about the club, should check the website at http://www.walkerscyclingclub.com or telephone Neil Walker on 01563 544488.
