A Classic Act

Walkers Cycling Club held their Spring Classic ride to Largs on Saturday.

The April away-day marks the anniversary of the founding of the club with an invitation going out to all members to gather at Nardini’s for lunch.

This year’s event followed the same pattern sa last year’s with each rider free to choose the type of bike and the route from Kilmaurs to Largs – as long as he or she arrives at the venue for 12.30pm.

This year the club split into two main groups, one opting for a longer and hillier 80-mile return ride via Lochwinnoch and Loch Thom and the other preferring an easier 60-mile return ride up and down the North Ayrshire coast.

One mountain bike enthusiast rode solo over the hills at Fairlie and Largs to drop down to the seafront to join his roadie colleagues, while a further rider opted to do a version of the Loch Thom route from her Renfrewshire home using a mix of cycle track and road.

The weather gods were kind to the club and offered an occasionally cool but generally very sunny ride.

All in all, the event was voted a great success and bodes well for the summer season’s away day rides, the next of which is on May 6th when the route is an old favourite – the Three Ferries.
